Paper Abstract:
|
More than 30 years ago, there appeared calls for soft skills among IT professionals, including personality awareness and stress management techniques. More recently, calls for Emotional Intelligence among IT personnel were noticed. The ICT professional of today and tomorrow will need to develop even stronger psychological skills parallel to technical competence. While Intellectual Intelligence is about thinking and Emotional Intelligence is about feeling, the recently-promoted Spiritual Intelligence is about being. This paper outlines the existence and functioning of a deepest inner psychological reality: the inner core or being. It outlines the impact of this human psychological component on intellectual work in the vision of I Am, therefore I think rather than its Cartesian converse. It then elaborates on the related concept of Spiritual Intelligence and argues for timeliness of recognizing, developing and implementing this psychological capability in various ICT professions. Such development would allow for the truly human capability of being, a capability that will enable the necessary psychological robustness, inventive creativity and convincing communication capacity among human beings centrally involved in ICT work in the 21st century. |
